April - Creating a Blog
APRIL: The Beginning...
Creativity swarms in my body collecting ideas like gooey sweet goodness. I have been storing them up for some while... as if winter was coming and I needed to save them just for myself.
This lack of creative outlet pushed making a blog to the top of my monthful list.
This being my first commitment to myself... I started off very nervous to start.. as if there was a wrong way to begin something new.
The more I spoke to friends... the more I convinced myself that I just needed to start small. So after a few hard ciders at a local Boston bar with some friends, I popped my monthful cherry and bought a domain name for a website.
monthfulcaila.com it shall be!
WEEK 1: Getting over the Fear of Failing.
Played around on SquareSpace. Watched "How To" YouTube & Skillshare Videos. Made a list of 3 Bloggers & Vloggers that inspired me and why I liked their work.
WEEK 2: Find a Mentor. Make a Plan.
One great way to stick to a goal is to find someone who has successfully accomplished the same feat. Searched instagram for inspiring bloggers and was very lucky to connect with Extra Petite in Boston after having my heart struck by some images of her romantically running in a high waited yellow skirt in a garden.
Making a rough plan of the necessary "to-dos" to get you where you want to be will make you feel better. Your goal will feel more manageable with your flashlight plan highlighting each step to take opposed to climbing stairs in the dark.
My plan included scheduling 2 photoshoots with local creatives to stock up on content. It was very important to me to have a visually aesthetic blog and I was willing to invest the time and hard work to make sure that came true.
WEEK 3: Create Something Even if its Bad.
You have to start somewhere. Your passion is the only thing determining how quickly mistakes are learned from. Even in week 3 you can look back at the past 2 weeks and feel good about how much more you know about what you are interested in. Progress!
This week I created content. Wrote. Recorded. Deleted. At the end of week three I had even written this post!
WEEK 4: Commit. Cross the Finish Line.
With my ultimate goal being 1 video blog and a website getting the monthful message out to the world, I see the freshly poured champagne glasses in sight. I feel like I have gotten the ball rolling enough in the past 3 weeks that I can't wait to share my progress.
APRIL MONTHFUL CONCLUSION:
There is something special about looking back and feeling like you've done something for yourself. You put yourself first. And that is wonderful. I feel successful in completing my monthful mission!
But let me tell you... it wasn't perfect.
Something I need to work on for next time:
Dedicated to making this blog come into fruition, I found myself spending too much time on my pet project. I would think about it at work, let it take over conversations, and my enthusiasm even led me to work on it through the night... twice! Although I was doing what I loved... it was at the expense of other pertinent priorities.
Helpful takeaway tip:
Before you sit down or start being Monthful for the day... know how much time you want to dedicate to it. 10 minutes. 1 hour. Set a timer and make sure to stop yourself.
Can't wait till May! what to try next...? hmm...
